Social Life

We have been trying to have people over for sourdough pancakes on Saturday mornings and also trying to have others over for dinner a few times each month on the weekends.  Some of the other couples get together during the week, but our days are quite long and we are pretty tired at the end of each day. As a result, other than family home evening once a month as a group, our social times are usually kept to the weekends. In addition, once a month a different missionary couple hosts a dinner group for those serving at the Area Office. These times have provided us with wonderful opportunities to get to know the other missionary couples.  We are amazed at their service and dedication to the Lord.  Many of them have served other missions before coming here to South Africa, and have incredible experiences to share. We are fortunate here to have not only the Area Office missionary couples, but also those who are serving at the Johannesburg Temple. Although we have very different work schedules from those serving at the Temple, we have been trying to reach out and get to know as many of them as we can.

A batch of sourdough on Saturday mornings.
I sure miss our big griddle that I have at  home.  It just takes so long to cook enough for eight people.  We are so happy we dried our start to bring with us!  They sure taste good!

The Johnson's (auditor missionaries) over for sourdough pancakes.

Here is a shot from our Area couples dinner group for February (which had a St. Patrick's theme).  There were about 15 missionary couples that attended.

And then there are times to share a meal while out exploring the area.
We were thrilled to find our favorite Iskender Kebab in Rivonia at the Istanbul Kebab Restaurant.

Here at the IreneVillage Market, Elder Winn had to try a new food - a Bacon Donut.!
